On episode 145 we speak with Luke Mezger of Mezger Homes located in Austin, TX. We discuss the custom accounting software Luke built, the experience of being featured in Dwell Magazine, Building Science, fixed prices, project management, and being confident as the expert.

Luke grew up in a small ranch town west of Waco, TX and has had a passion for construction and home building pretty much his entire life. His curiosity for building started early by taking apart his toys and putting them back together, sometimes to fix them and sometimes just to figure out how they worked. This progressed later into fixing equipment and machinery on the family farm where he also learned the value of hard work and always getting the job done right, no matter what. His fascination with building led him to attend Texas A&M University where he received a degree in Construction Science and a minor in Business Administration.

He began his career after graduation helping start the Austin division of one of the nation’s leading builders. In his first year with this company, Luke earned the National Rookie of the Year Award and the Austin Division Builder of the Year Award. He was quickly promoted to manage the purchasing for the division. After a few years leading the purchasing departments of this company and one other, he decided the time was right to venture out on his own and start his lifelong dream. Luke always knew that one day he would run his own business, one that was grounded on the principles that he was passionate about. In the summer of 2007, with much council and prayer, Mezger Homes became a reality. Luke is Associate Constructor certified from the American Institute of Constructors, a member of the Home Building Association, Green Builder Certified by the Austin Energy® Green Building program, and a proud husband to Melissa and father to 4 amazing children.
